Her heart fluttered when she heard the sound of the key turn in the lock. She quickly adjusted her maroon silk sari with the yellow border, the one that had caught his eye, and waited eagerly for his footsteps.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven… Yes, exactly seven steps before he stopped, hesitated for a few moments, then removed his shoes one by one and arranged them neatly side by side on the shoe rack.

She smiled. He had been mindful of taking his shoes off every day now. “I am not used to it, but I will if you want me to. It’s probably a good thing to do anyway.”

As he settled down, he would pick up the TV remote and, without looking at her, would say in his smooth baritone, “So how did you spend your day, anything interesting?”

Shaan Ahuja found himself bowing to tradition and agreeing to an arranged marriage to the beautiful Ruhi Sharma. He went through the motions but had no intention of carrying through on his vows. His last foray into matters of the heart with an American girl had left him scarred and unwilling to try again. Thoroughly disillusioned and disgruntled he wasted no time in making his intentions clear to Ruhi on their wedding night. But, he was completely unprepared for what his new wife had in mind.

Cassie's Cowboy Crave (Sweet Montana Bride, #1)Cassie’s Cowboy Crave

Sweet Montana Bride Series

by Kimberly Krey

Published July 12, 2013

Twenty-four-year-old Cassie Lovell has a great job, good friends, and an apartment with a killer view. That is, until life is turned upside down. Without the chance to say goodbye, Cassie is forced into a witness protection program on Emerson Ranch. Just when she fears life is doomed, Cassie meets Shane Emerson, the stunningly handsome cowboy who’ll be posing as her newlywed groom.

Shane Emerson is determined not to fall for the woman he’s agreed to harbor. Especially since the whole thing was his family’s way of trying to get him hitched. So why is it when he takes Cassie into his home, Shane wants nothing more than to turn their make-believe marriage into more than just a sham?

In a moment of weakness, Shane steals a kiss.

In return, Cassie steals his heart.

Yet before they confess their undying love,

a hidden danger threatens to tear them apart.

*Although this novel is considered clean romance, it does contain passionate kissing and a few mild curse words.

Excerpt & Recipe

This excerpt from Cassie’s Cowboy Crave takes place shortly after Shane and Cassie agree to pose as husband and wife, in order to hide/protect her for a period of time. Cassie had whipped up two cups of her special ‘gas station hot chocolate’, but it was hours before they actually drank them. Hence, the reason for the Frozen Hot Chocolate recipe to go along with it. Hope you enjoy them both!

Those sweet-looking lips were just a breath away, a breath he inhaled as he moved in. When their eyes met, Shane tilted his head, asking for permission with the lift of his brow. She nodded slightly – a silent response – yet the best thing he’d heard in weeks – Yes.

He pressed his mouth against hers, taunted by the silky warmth of her timid kiss. He wanted more. Wanted to taste the sweet chocolate on her tongue, inhale the flavor on her breath. At last her lips parted, just slightly, as she released a soft noise of pleasure. And though he was certain her cup of cocoa had been as cool as his, all he could taste was the heat.

Frozen Hot ChocolateRevisedFrozen Hot Chocolate

Yield: 2 to 3 large servings

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

3 ounces chocolate (milk, semisweet or dark), finely chopped
4½ teaspoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons Ovaltine
1½ cups milk, divided
3 cups ice

1. Place the chocolate in a medium bowl set over a saucepan with about 1 inch of barely simmering water (keep the heat on low). Stir the chocolate occasionally, until it is completely melted and smooth. Add the sugar and Ovaltine and whisk to combine completely. Remove from the heat and slowly whisk in ½ cup of the milk until smooth. Allow to cool to room temperature.

2. In a blender, place the remaining 1 cup of milk, the chocolate mixture and the ice. Blend on high speed until smooth and slushy. Pour into servings glasses and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

Round Table Discussion

Discussion 3

For Discussion

Romance is one of my favorite genres,  and I’d love to hear your thoughts about the romances you read. Some questions for consideration:

What types of romances do you most enjoy reading?  (Historical, Paranormal, Sci-fi, Romantic Suspense, Western, NA, YA,  Contemporary,  etc)

My thoughts: Currently,  I’m really drawn to romantic suspense novels, especially with heroes and heroines who have military or security roles and the romance unfolds in a plot centered around mystery and danger.

Romance books have been around so long that you have probably encountered almost every plot device that’s been used to set up a love story.  Do you have any favorites? Least favorites? Click here to see a list of popular romance plots   (Forbidden love (ex. Best Friend/Little Sister); Love Triangles, Arranged marriages (historical romance); Beauty and the Beast,  Cinderella or rags to riches; the chosen one/ soul mates);  the reappearing ex or old lover; opposites attract, etc)

My thoughts: I like “new love” romances where two people meet for the first time and over the course of the story fall in love.  I like the flirty bantering, the sexual tension, the first kisses, and all the wonderful feelings we have when we think we’ve found the “right one for me.”  I tend to avoid love triangles because I don’t like getting caught up in all the angst, as the protagonist agonizes over which person to choose.

How much romantic heat do you like in your books,  and how important is this element when you decide whether to  read a book?  – Clean and Sweet/ sensual/ steamy/ or get the fire extinguisher out -this fire’s a blazin’

My thoughts: Heat level isn’t all that important to me. I just want an authentic love story with characters whose emotions and feelings are believable, (I shy away from “instalove”), and I begin to really care about and cheer for the couple finding their HEA!

Anything else?

3 – The Other World

I loved learning that Anne Elisabeth was a pet person, and reading about her cats and dog on Minerva Louise’s blog ( always brings a smile to my face.

4 – Mel’sShelves

I’ve heard good things about this series and wanted to read it so what better way than to jump in on book 5? I see why people rave about these books

5 – JL Mbewe

I loved how the story kept us guessing as who was the “bad guy”. I love being able to gather the clues and make guesses about the plot or characters, whether I’m right or proven wrong in the end. And even better when it has such a beautiful ending to wrap it all up nicely. It is a book to be read again and again

8 – GettingYour Read On

Each character seemed to have a journey both of self discovery and of knowledge.

The heroes of this story are weak, pathetic, pitiful characters. They aren’t the strong powerful champions. But it is in their weakness, their knowing that they can not do this on their own, that the strength comes.

10 – Jojo’sCorner

…as mesmerizing as it is mysterious.

11 – LDS& Lovin’ It

Just when I think I know where the story is going, she throws in the unexpected and yet it all manages to make sense.

“I think part of the love I feel for Dragonwitch is due to the struggle this novel was to write. This was the hardest novel I have ever produced…”

14 – Mommasez…

I would give this series ten out of five stars, lol, because of the creativity, tight plot, action, action, action, and amazing characters.

15 – Dee’sReads

The “evil” characters weren’t truly evil, they were just responding to heartbreak and disappointment. The imagery was amazing.

16 – That Girl Reads

If Dragonwitch was turned into a movie what actors would you like to see play the main characters?

1.) 2.)
3.) 4.)
5.) 6.)

17 – Living a Goddess Life

I would recommend Dragonwitch to anyone who has read any of her other novels, fans of medieval-esque fantasy, fans of the ‘good’ vs ‘evil’ grey areas, and those who enjoy cats. Because, truly, Eanrin is FABULOUS.
