Lena Diaz returns with another sexy, thrilling Deadly Games novel and the darkest question of all: What do you do when your freedom could cost you your life?

Detective Emily O’Malley just stumbled upon a killer’s lair—and the remains of a woman he kept locked away for years. But this killer isn’t done yet. More women are missing, and all clues point to Devlin Buchanan—the man who seems to know just a little too much. Emily’s instincts are rarely wrong, and now they’re telling her this sexy, mysterious man is hiding something big …
As a trained assassin for EXIT Inc—a top-secret mercenary group posing as an international tour company—Devlin “Devil” Buchanan isn’t afraid to take justice into his own hands. But when the hot new detective on his trail gets too close to the organization and a contract is placed on her life, Devlin does the only thing he can: he turns rogue agent and kidnaps her to save her life.

With EXIT Inc closing in and passions running hot between them, Emily and Devlin must work together to find the missing women and clear both their names before time runs out … and the key to freedom is thrown away.

“Who Is Your Auto-Buy Author or Series?”

by Lena Diaz

Thank you for hosting me here today!

I love talking about books and stories that have touched my heart. Because that’s what romance novels are all about, eliciting emotion in the reader, making us fall in love, allowing us to experience relationships and settings we might never experience on our own. Or even if we have experienced those emotions and relationships, the journey through a romance novel helps us re-live those wonderful moments, bringing them vividly to life in our memories.

Romance novels are powerful. They can get you through rough times when it seems like everything is going wrong. For a few hours you can escape the pressures of everyday life and go on an adventure and make friends in an imaginary world, friends who can seem just as real as if you’d really met them. I can’t be the only one who remembers stories I’ve read years, even decades ago and treasure the characters as if I knew them personally. I can quote lines from favorite scenes, and I bet you can too if you’re a life-long romance reader.

Reading romances got me through tough times growing up. And today? Yes, I still turn to romance novels to get that uplifting feeling that makes me forget–for a few hours anyway–the pressures of paying bills, cars breaking down, college tuition bills coming due.

But let’s face it. Not all novels are created equal. Some are good, quick reads and we’re happy we’ve read them. But those sweeping stories and characters that live with us forever are written by masters, or might even be that one, amazing novel written by an author who never repeats that incredible performance ever again. Those stories, those novels, go on our keeper shelves and get re-read again and again. They’re comfort food for the soul. And many times those authors become auto-buys. We voraciously read everything they produce, hoping, craving that unique life-altering read we once had in our favorite book of theirs. And when we find another wonderful keeper, exhilaration sweeps through us and nothing can pull us away from the story until the very last word.

Who are my auto-buy authors, writers who’ve provided me at least one amazing reading experience that makes me buy all of their subsequent books searching for that unique experience all over again? There are many, but here’s a short list: Linda Howard for Son of the Morning, Lynn Kurland for This is All I Ask, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss (who is sadly gone now) for Ashes in the Wind, Elizabeth Lowell for Forbidden (all 3 books in her medieval series are incredible), Janet Chapman for Charming the Highlander, Sherrilyn Kenyon for Night Pleasures, Lisa Gardner for The Perfect Husband.

Those are just a few of my auto-buys and the books that made them auto-buys. I’d love to hear yours!

  1. Thank you for the wonder guest blog post today, Ms. Diaz. I don’t use an automatic auto-buy for any particular author. I have recently learned that on Amazon, if you like the author’s page, you will receive Amazon emails about that author’s new releases. I primarily rely on author newsletters, FictFact, and Goodreads to learn when new books by authors I regularly follow are released.

With that said, some romance authors I follow closely are Kaylea Cross (all of her series); Teresa Reasor (SEAL Heartbreakers series); Laura Kaye (Hard Ink, Inc. series); Gennita Low (all of her series), Rebecca Zanetti (Sins Brothers Series), and J.R. Ward’s series. I know there are many more but these are just a few off the top of my head.
